Today I want to share with you the first artwork that I uploaded to My Society 6.
The Watercolor Pineapple.
For the better part of my life I have been painting. Many come to this page from Pinterest and the furniture I love painting. But after cancer I needed something that could heal more than the physical. And watercolor was the perfect medium.
I remember the first time I sat down to “try” or “play.” I repeated what I say to everyone else to myself a hundred times before I let that paint brush full of water and pigment touch the paper. “It’s just paint. It’s just paint. You can always paint over it or start again.”
What I quickly learned; is everything I was good at came over time and a lot of practice I had never acknowledged. The messy nature of too much water was easy to train myself to learn to control… but the patience needed to not muddy the colors because you didn’t wait for something to dry. Well that was the true gift.
I also learned that I LOVE ability to get lost in the flow of the loose pigment swirling in the water. The way it lays down on different papers and going cheap only adds to frustration. Many people think they aren’t good at something simply because the tools they are using are themselves not good quality.
I have hundreds of pieces of artwork that I only share bits of here and there on IG.. but the work it takes to edit and upload is where I now find myself in order to share it with you.
I have spent the last year painting and processing illness, trauma, and faith through a brush in my hand. So that I can share and inspire you to find a way to reach in deep and love on yourself through good and hard. I still paint furniture and walls and anything that can’t run away.
But it’s all coming together now to be shared with the world. It’s the real work. The part I wish I could hand off to someone else who does it faster and better. But you get me for now. So be patient with and for me. Pray someone comes along soon to help me!!
