So we left off with the beautiful china hutch
and now I’ll share with you the beautiful painted French Dining Set. The table is the exact opposite of the hutch. The main color was the accent color from the hutch and accenting with the Franciscan Grey… The fabric was chosen by the client.
When doing table and chairs I don’t have a magic or routine way of doing them… I started with the table in this project. I do always start with the legs. I painted out the whole bottom in Franciscan Grey and went back with the custom mix of Magnolia and Baguette {created the off-white}.
I played with the Hurricane accent color on this set and just couldn’t find as many details for it… So, I left it off. I didn’t want it to compete with the other two colors because it was so subtle on the china hutch.
The chairs were absolutely gorgeous to work with. I love love French caned backed chairs… I’m sure you have noticed!! I did spray them all and used my handy dandy artist brush to do the grey accents!! When brushing chairs it can end taking 2 hours or more per chair… the multiple coats, the accent color, the sanding and then waxing… yep so I cut the time with spraying. I used my new Wagoner Flexio sprayer with the custom mix of the paint…. I watered it down just a tinge but I don’t think I needed to. It sprayed beautifully!! Using a high grit between the coats. I only needed two coats using the sprayer. I hand brushed one and it was going to be more than 3 coats to get the coverage I wanted… Time saver!!!
There’s just something about those french cabriole legs that make my heart sing!! I love them!!
Aren’t they just gorgeous!!
love it! so cute!
Thank you Martha!!
I love your work…you pay very close attention to detail and don’t just slap on the paint and sand it off. Great job!
Thank you Norma!! I try with all I have to not just slap it on!! I truly love what I do!! Have a great day!!
The detail in those chairs is AMAZING!! This is seriously SO cute!
This project is absolutely stunning. Really love the chairs!
Love the color.
WHITE chairs with GREY accents??!! Seriously amazing!
Wow! Lori, you did a beautiful job! I love chairs with caning and you did such an amazing job on them. The grey accents are such a beautiful touch. I have some caned back chairs waiting for a makeover and this may just be what I do too. The table and hutch are just as beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration Lori!
Thank you for such kind words Angie!! I would love to see what you do with yours!! Have a great weekend!!
Lori, these chairs look AMAZING! You’ve done such a wonderful job alternating the colors and distressing them! You’ve inspired me to paint my own chairs (for the first time in my life!). 🙂
My only concern is how do I not have the ugly orange stain to show through once I start sanding them down? Do you mind letting me know how you got the pretty black color to peek through? Did you do a base coat of black first or did you use dark wax on the exposed areas?
I would really appreciate any help or suggestions you can give me!
Thank you!
Thank you! I have a table with cane chairs I’m wanting refinished. Yours are beautiful!! The white looks off-white or cream. Which is it? And then you glazed it. Was it a very dark brown? I’m a bit artistically challenged so I’d love to know specifics 🙂
Thank you Karina, The chairs were painted with custom mix of colors that created an off white color. I didn’t glaze. I used a combination of clear and dark waxes. Have fun with it until you find your perfect color and look!!
Thanks, Lori! Have a great day 🙂
This is my dining room set!!! I have the exact one and I am dying to refinish it!! I need a step by step!! Help! This is beautiful!
