Keeping furniture in your family is such a wonderful way to not only preserve old memories but save money!! Painting this set was a great way to keep and Love this furniture all over again. Her grandmother still lives with her and the wonderful stories she had to share warmed my heart. I truly feel blessed to be able to paint for a living. I love the stories and I love the smiles & hugs when we are done.
I painted out the dining set using Annie Sloan’s Old Ochre and General Finishes Java Gel Stain on the top. The top of the table was in pretty rough set. It was a table that her grandfather had hand built himself. It had some sort of veneer over the top with quite a few blemishes. So a light sanding and filling. I painted over the top using chalk paint in Pecan color and then applied the General Finishes stain just like you would typically. It took about 3 thin coats to come out beautifully. I also top coated with GF high performance top coat.
The top of the buffet was solid but in similar condition with bad water spots. I also painted out the top to it and stained as usual to get an even and smooth stained look.
Beautiful distressing…
And then the chairs… I believe that 4 came with the set and she did something really clever… she bought 2 bar stools and cut them to the same height. No one will ever know!!
All painted out by hand. Smooth as butter!! I love my Cling On brushes!! That will be another post!!
I paint a lot of hutches and a lot of dining sets and they are some of my favorite pieces to paint.. You can see more here.. here.. and I love this one here..
Have a great day!! I have another hutch for you tomorrow. And it’s beautiful!!
