Today I share with you the beautiful bedroom furniture… as seen before…. I admit before they had dreams for these pieces I had dreams for them…
Mostly because of the many details that were lost in all that yellow and gold. The headboard was actually made of resin coat over Styrofoam and the finish on it was very bumpy so a I thought it would be gorgeous done up in layers of colors to hide the mess it was in. And the mirror isn’t being used with the set so antiquing it in layers of color and le dirt was my instant thought… but as you will see the owners had different ideas. And they are the ones who get to take it home at the end of the day so they need to love it!! That’s the sad part of my job- I don’t get to keep all this gorgeous stuff!!
Headboard and mirror were painted in the same mixture as all the creamy goodness- Custom mix of Maison Blanche Magnolia and Baguette and a poly-acrylic was applied. But before all this could happen it needed a good cleaning and it needed to have a couple of coats of Zinsser Bull’s Eye Primer. This step is important because of the gold finish that is on it. It will absolutely bleed through the white paint and make you sad that you didn’t do it to begin with {yes a little previous sad experience coming to you directly!!}… so take my word for it and save yourself time and sadness!! These pieces aren’t being distressed at all so I used the spray that is white. I didn’t get any pictures of it close up or by itself. This was the last of the pieces going out of the garage and onto the truck… the guys got there just as I was shooting the pics of the dining set and I scrambled quick to pull these together… I was so sad when I got the card uploaded and saw I didn’t get any detail shots of that mirror… grrr….
The night stands were done in Ralph Lauren’s Irongate… gorgeous color. I primed them with Maison Blanche Franciscan Grey. I could have used a regular primer but I find that when using the metallic paints our paint makes an expensive but awesome primer!!
Then the dresser.. this one was done in Maison Blanche Wrought Iron and I used our Pewter Organza Shimmer for the accents. Touches of the same custom mix white to tie in the headboard.
So where my vision for this set was different… all together it is a beautiful set!!
Thank you for stopping in!! ~ Lori
I really love how the dresser turned out! Its been really fun seeing all the custom work you’re doing for this family… It seems you’re decorating their whole house. I hope they will send you pictures of the furniture in their home after its all set up.
Thank you Carla… I can’t wait to see it all in their home. And I know they can’t wait to find the home that it will be in!! ~ Lori
Oh my goodness! I love those silver colors!!
These pieces turned out beautifully Lori! That silver detail work on the dresser had to have taken forever! Great job!
These pieces are “to die for”. I happen to be painting a metallic piece today and you gave me an idea with the white accents. Just thinking…..maybe! Also I tried to click your link on the google+ hometalktuesday and i couldn’t get the link to work.
I love this! I have a dresser I’ve been wanting to do in a metallic but I was afraid it would be too much. You jst inspired me!

Hi Lori, I stumbled across your page and am in LOVE with the metallics! I’m in the metro Atlanta area and would like to know where I can find the paint that you used for the night stands, hope to hear from you soon, thanks!
You can find the Modern Masters Metallic paints on Amazon and in some specialty paint stores. They have a locations page on their website. Happy Painting!!
Hi. I am getting ready to paint a friends bedroom set with the Ralph Lauren’s Irongate metallic and this awesome set came up in my search. Did you do a topcoat over the Ralph Lauren paint to protect it? Did you have to sand the set before priming? Thank you!
Primer is important for adhesion and coverage. I seal with General Finishes High Performance Top Coat. Happy Painting.
