I just finished this wonderful desk. It was in quite bad shape when I got it. The clients that I just did the bedroom set {click here to see it } for were going to toss it thinking that it couldn’t be saved…. What??? NO!!! I can make it beautiful again!!
That’s what we started with!! Not too bad. I have definitely worked with worse!! And this was a family piece that had been his grandfather’s and then his fathers… you just can’t erase history!! So, given a little direction on color I sought out to make it new again!!
We originally talked about making it fun like the twins desks… but decided it should be His!! So I decided on Confederate Grey and Hurricane as the accent color!! Miss Shirley is all about accent colors. This desk will sit against a brick wall and this will compliment it so well!!
I used dark brown wax on the body initially of the piece and a second coat of amber on the body, drawers, and handles.
The top I used a wash of Silver Mink on the top and wiped almost all of it off but the around the edges to give it a little more dimension and aged look to it. I think it turned out gorgeous!!
The neatest part to this story… Is I have painted for both daughters, granddaughters, and now the grandparents… I love what I do… And painting for an entire family is the highest compliment to my work there is!!
Thank you for stopping in!!

Dear, sweet Lori, Our entire family is so happy we found you. I already loved my bedroom set you did & we are both just crazy about the desk. Pat is really proud of it & the job you did. We never imagined it could look like this. Sooooo happy we didn’t set it outside for trash pickup. Can’t wait to get my end tables to you. You’re right…I love an accent color. Trying to come up with colors for our next project. Thanks again & give Mia a kiss for us. Sleep tight.
Sincerely, Shirley
Very nicely done, looks so distinguished for a man’s desk. You do such great work. That is indeed a compliment to have generations of a family request your services, says so much about the excellent work you do. Very nice compliment above from the folks you did desk for. Happy Days
Great job on the desk! That color combo reminds me of a French Provincial desk I did recently (it’s on my blog if you want to see pics). I love that grey and whie look. I’m so glad that your customers loved it! It’s amazing how people think things are trash, and us creative people show them that it’s really a gem underneath all the filth and grit 🙂 Stop by my blog and say hi, too! 🙂

Just found your blog today…I love your furniture! My daughter and I live in Oklahoma and have been painting furniture for about 8 months now….I had really run out of ideas until I found your blog! Thank you so much! I also appreciate your Christian faith and your remarks about it. I’ve gone back through all of your entries and read them all!

Wow! So pretty and yet sophisticated – great job!
Hi, what paint company do you use? I found the confederate grey but can’t find hurricane anywhere, and this exact combo would work very well with a desk I’m planning on painting.
Thanks.
They both were from Maison Blanche Paint Company. Thank you!!
